HS-Consultative Projects
Background
Heart Support-Australia (HS-A) is unique in being the only national organisation providing support for people with heart conditions and their families. The HS-A National Office is based in Canberra, there are 61 branches across Australia, and development is continuous. The central objectives of HS-A are to foster commitment to, and awareness in the Australian community of the needs and interests of the estimated two million Australians affected by cardiovascular disease and to provide support, information and encouragement, and an organised approach to the enhancement of quality of life for those persons.
HS-A programs have been developed to complement medical and allied health professionals in providing support for heart patients. Programs include free lay counselling and peer support services delivered by trained volunteers, walking programs, Internet chat line, and distribution of resources for heart patients and carers.
Consultative Project
The Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing utilises input from HS-A as the key consumer representative in cardiac health matters especially in relation to the establishment of the National Cardiac Procedures Register and in establishing mechanisms for consumer input to the key arenas for action identified by the National Heart, Stroke and Vascular Disease Strategies Group. Through our membership and lay counselling services, HS-A has ready access to consumer opinions and comments on all matters pertaining to cardiovascular disease. HS-A members provide consumer representation on relevant committees and forums Australia wide.
If you have a heart condition and would like to become a Conmsumer Represetnative, you can register by contacting Heart Support Australia and a kit will be sent out to you click here to request your kit and register.
